you're so much more than just good enough.

music: good enough by sarah mclachlan

chanced upon a poem by maya angelou titled "phenomenal woman", and i really like it. i thought i'd just share the last stanza here.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
The palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

it's just so full of confidence, and it's strangely empowering. i just love it.

i love being female. i'm not feminist or anything, i don't like it when people give me crap about being feminist and rgs being a "feminist" school. we're proud to be female, that's what we are, but we do not go around bashing the opposite sex. now i'm reminded of a quote from the movie iron jawed angels, "in women, courage is often mistaken for insanity." i know it doesn't really fit in with whatever i've been saying, but oh, i like that line alot, especially if you watch the movie, you'd understand why.

reading through all the poems brings back memories of lit classes back in raffles. and how we pranced around spouting lines like "unsex me here!" (macbeth, shakespeare) and "rage, rage, against the dying of the light!" (do not go gentle into that good night, dylan thomas) usually with no relation whatsoever to what we were doing at all. crazy us, as always.

i'm rambling. i should be sleeping. strange night, tonight.
